This year, Gambling Disorder Screening Day will take place on Tuesday, March 11.
M-TAC is awarding up to $5,000 stipends to organizations hosting Gambling Disorder Screening Day events! Apply by January 29th at the link below.
Gambling Disorder Screening Day is a one-day, international grassroots call to action designed to increase awareness of gambling harm and to support screening for gambling disorder during Problem Gambling Awareness Month by engaging healthcare providers, addiction-trained professionals, and others to host screening day events in their practices and/or communities.
In 2024, the Massachusetts Technical Assistance Center for Problem Gambling Treatment (M-TAC) provided a new opportunity for Massachusetts-based organizations to apply to receive training, technical assistance, promotional items, and other resources, including a stipend, to support them in planning and hosting Gambling Disorder Screening Day events.
Awardees screened approximately 3,050 individuals for gambling disorder, of which, approximately 611 screened positive, indicating that gambling may be negatively impacting them and that they would benefit from a full evaluation to explore their relationship with gambling.
In an effort to continue to empower, engage, and encourage organizations across the Commonwealth to screen for problem gambling, M-TAC is excited to announce they are repeating this opportunity! M-TAC will once again offer a stipend of up to $5,000, as well as training, technical assistance, and a shipment of resources, materials, and promotional items to a limited number of awardees!
*Previous awardees are welcome and encouraged to apply, however, priority will be given to new applicants.
By hosting a Screening Day event, your organization is taking an important first step to help identify individuals who would benefit from further assessment for potential gambling-related problems.
Additionally, Gambling Disorder Screening Day event hosts play a critical role in increasing public awareness of problem gambling as well as in the availability of prevention, treatment, and recovery services available in their communities.
Please visit the Gambling Disorder Screening Day (GDSD) Host page on the M-TAC website for additional information, and to submit your application. Applications are due by Monday, January 29th.
If you have any questions about this opportunity, please email mtac@hria.org. If you know of any other MA-based organizations who might be interested in participating, please pass along the opportunity!
