In FY24, Peer Ambassadors with the MA Ambassador Project conducted outreach efforts to engage a variety of community members and share information and resources related to problem gambling. Between July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024, Ambassadors reached 6,317 individuals in addition to the following:
2,349 community members received prevention education through one-on-one discussions and small group work
153 organizations were engaged in discussions about problem gambling within their setting
1,922 individuals received prevention education through community events and presentations
2,046 individuals were reached through the distribution of
gambling prevention materials
The Photovoice Project is a youth-centered approach that engages students in the Photovoice method to explore underage gambling and related public health issues in their community.
Youth use their learning from the Photovoice process to identify a problem in their community, learn about the root causes of this process, and identify a set of actions that can be taken to contribute as solutions to the identified problem.
In FY24, the Photovoice Project was implemented in the following locations:
Brockton - Old Colony YMCA
Brockton - High Point Treatment Center
Charlestown - NEW Health
Fitchburg/Leominster - LUK, Inc.
Malden - Cambridge Health Alliance
Plymouth - High Point Treatment Center
Springfield - Gandara Center
In addition to taking photos, students participated in a “community action plan” to identify something they want to change in their community, and create plans and engage stakeholders in long-term, sustainable change.
In FY24, each organization collected at least 6 boxes of donations for High Point Treatment Centers Healthy Families Department to benefit more than 100 families. Another organization facilitated a peer mental health day for 75 fifth-grade students to raise awareness and provide education around mental health. We are profoundly proud to support youth and the Photovoice participants and look forward to all they will accomplish in the new year!
