Community Health Workers (CHWs) play a crucial role in educating, screening, and identifying problem gamblers as well as those who are at risk. They are well equipped to deliver messages and services around problem gambling in a holistic and culturally appropriate manner. With the landscape of gambling rapidly changing, it is essential that we invest in the develop of CHWs so that they have the knowledge to mitigate harms from problem gambling.
In 2025, OPGS launched the Community Health Worker Training procurement to increase the capacity of CHWs and other non-clinical service providers to address problem gambling in the Commonwealth.
Please join us in congratulating the Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers (MACHW) as the recipients of this new award! MACHW is the first professional organization for CHWs in the United States and has since worked at state and national levels to advance the profession and practice.
